Floyd Knight Jr. is currently a Rhoten A. Smith Fellow and the former Carter G. Woodson Fellow (2010-2012) at Northern Illinois University where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Linguistics. He was ordained in 1988 by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination and has served Freewill Baptist, United Methodist and Disciples congregations in Anglo, Hispanic and African-American communities. He has served the wider church as (1) a member of the Chalice Hymnal Committee of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), (2) an adjunct faculty member for the Upper Room Chapel of the United Methodist Church, (3) an adjunct faculty member for Western Baptist Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri, and (4) a Promise Keepers Ambassador. In addition, Pastor Knight has served as both a hospital chaplain at the University of Chicago Medical Center and as a college chaplain at Boston University. Pastor Knight has been a Sr. Pastor, a Worship Pastor and/or an Associate Pastor in several local congregations in Massachusetts, Missouri and Illinois. He has also held professional or managerial positions in the Financial Services, Insurance and Healthcare industries.

Pastor Knight's articles, commentaries, musical composition and arrangements have previously appeared in the BOSTON FREE PRESS and in three Chalice Press publications: OUT OF MIGHTY WATERS edited by Darryl M. Trimiew, the CHALICE HYMNAL, and the CHALICE HYMNAL: WORSHIP LEADER'S COMPANION.

As a student of the Hebrew Bible, Floyd Knight received his Liberal Arts degree with departmental honors from Indiana University where Dr. Theodore Mullen was his academic advisor, his Master of Divinity degree under full academic scholarship from Boston University's School of Theology where Dr. Simon Parker was his academic advisor, and spent four years on an academic scholarship at the University of Chicago Divinity School where Dr. Gosta Ahlstrom and Ioan Culiano were his doctoral advisors. 

Unlike other resources, LOT provides alternatives mechanism for heterosexual and LGBT couples who choose not to get married to have the same or similar benefits and legal protections that married couples receive.
